Your brand is the be all, end all of your business’s memorability. Simply put, strong, consistent brands are remembered. Weak or inconsistent brands are forgotten. Your brand doesn’t have to be professionally created, but professional brand specialists are worth their weight in gold for the direction they will give you.
It all starts with your unique selling point (USP). Why would someone choose your brand over someone else’s who offers the same product or service? From colours to fonts to the content itself and how it’s delivered, your brand is comprised of many elements that all work together to communicate who you are as a business and what you promise to your customers. Take time to work out exactly what these elements are, and then BE CONSISTENT.
2. Create content that really adds value
Want to be remembered? Start by actually addressing your customer’s problems. The more accurately your content mirrors their experiences and hopes, the more connected they will feel, and the more memorable your brand becomes. Good content helps brands stand out, so take the time to make sure every piece of content you release is a good reflection of that brand you built.
3. Create stunning visuals
Beautiful photos and graphics grab attention. That’s always been true, from the very first print ads. So be sure to invest time and resources in the right imagery. There are great resources for free imagery, but we learned our lesson when we realised we were using the same image on one of our lead magnets that one of the biggest names in marketing was using for one of her programmes, and people didn’t associate it with us like they should have. Likewise, Canva and other free tools are great for graphics, but if you don’t have much of a design eye they can do you more harm than good.
Invest in professional photography, paid stock and custom design for the content that matters and to make sure it’s as on-brand as possible. It’ll stand out because your audience won’t have seen anything like it, and because it so perfectly captures your brand.
4. Bow down to King Video
Study after study confirms the same thing: video is king in terms of engagement and lead gen. Yet surprisingly few brands utilise video in their content strategies. It may be terrifying at first, but video is a great way to get yourself in front of your audience in a way they’ll remember and act on.
5. Target the right people with paid ads
You know how sometimes you’ll be thinking about the fact that you need something, do a quick search on your phone, and a few minutes later an ad pops up on Facebook that solves your problem? Hypertargeting is a powerful tool for paid advertising that helps ensure your product or service is seen by the right people at the exact right time. Relevance is key to standing out and being remembered, and nothing is more relevant than a well timed, engaging ad. 6. Embrace influencer marketing (and not just #sponcon)
Did you know that guest blog posts count as influencer marketing? That’s right, it’s not just sponsored collaborations on Instagram. Influencer marketing means any time you use someone else’s platform to reach your target audience. Whether it’s as a guest on a podcast, a contributor to a blog, a speaker at an event or, yes, a sponsored social media post, influencer marketing can help establish you as an authority, making you more memorable to your audience.
7. Keep social media social
People are narcissists at heart, so nothing works better for standing out than engaging on their content. After all, we all want the same thing: validation of what we’re doing. So to stand out on social media, start with a strong outbound engagement strategy. Valuable comments (no bots, please!) and relevant responses to stories are the way forward. Start by looking at hashtags you use or communities you’re in.
Whatever you do, make sure that you keep your brand’s USP at the heart of everything you do. Nothing will make you fade into the background faster than trying to emulate your competitors will.
